Fast Fashion Is Old. People Are Choosing Sustainable Clothing With Poplinen

October 11, 2020

As I revitalize my eco-conscious journey, I’ve discovered one of the most important aspects of choosing sustainable clothes as often as possible is putting in the time to research. Researching before purchasing is an added step to our already busy lives, but necessary for eco-consciousness.

As consumers, we see an item and purchase so quickly, we don’t question the brand or how our item was made. When choosing sustainable clothing, it is important to research the brand.

This blog post is all about Sustainable Clothing With Poplinen

When considering Poplinen the first thing I did was research the brand. I was looking for their mission, how ethical the brand was, price/affordability, and of course, their sustainability and eco-conscious efforts.

Poplinen mission:

The mission of Poplinen is to build a community for all women searching for a better way to purchase sustainable, higher-quality styles that look and feel good, all while not breaking the bank.

As a black woman, having a brand targeting all women and highlighting the need for sustainable, high-quality clothing resonates with me. As a woman, we are often constantly working to increase self-confidence and find ways to love the body and skin we are in.

Poplinen sizes range from XS – 3X. Having a sustainable clothing line with pieces that complement your size and your style is imperative.

How ethical is poplinen clothing?

The fashion industry workers are overwhelmingly women who are not paid a fair wage.  In addition, there is an overwhelming amount of environmental and occupational hazards during textile production.

Poplinen clothing is made in Downtown Los Angeles in a local factory with living wages and benefits. Clothes are made ethically in the United States with eco-friendly materials.

We have all purchased an item for cheap, washed it, and immediately regretted wasting our money. The quality of the items is important.

In order to maintain a more eco-conscious lifestyle, it is important to purchase quality materials when necessary to avoid having to continuously purchase items.

Poplinen designs are made of premium, high-quality materials that are both cozy and durable.

Their price points are affordable and unlike other brands, these pieces are long-lasting. Prices range from $38 – $110.

Is Poplinen a sustainable fashion brand?

I’ve recently learned fashion is terrible for the environment. Fast fashion is trendy, cheap clothing that moves quickly to stores to increase consumers’ desire to purchase.

United States landfills receive 12.8 million tons of clothing every year (Forbes). By 2030, there will be a 60% increase in the fashion industry’s carbon emissions.

If we want to be more eco-conscious we have to be knowledgeable about the type of clothing we buy and the impact it has on the planet.

Poplinen uses sustainable practices including compostable packing and items shipped with recycled materials. All clothes are made with eco-friendly fabrics including organic and plant-based fabrics.

Here are the items I’ve purchased from Poplinen!

Norma Modal Ribbed Turtleneck

I will be wearing this all winter! It’s the ribbed turtleneck that has been in love with this piece. Made from eco-friendly fabric, Modal, it is light enough to layer but thin enough to be breathable. I paired this with these brown ankle booties, and some thrifted dark wash jeans.

Agnes Raglan Organic Cotton + Tencel Sweatshirt

This crew neck sweater is perfect for fall! I chose Sea Mist because I thought it would add a bit of brightness against my brown skin tone. The sweater is made from organic cotton and Tencel. It feels soft and cozy! I paired it with a pair of light wash jeans, boots, clear glasses, and simple jewelry.
